[FR]Haunted House

Lately i have been working on a haunted house project for AYC. I help from my club, Key Club, and i go there every week. The haunted house in previous years was hosted at the Veteran’s Building but this time it is at South Shore. I’ve been going since mid September and our set is looking really nice. We came up with a haunted beauty salon since this year it is a mall theme. Other scenes people are making are: Safeway, Disney Store, BabysRUs, antique store, and ,any more.

So for our scene we have blood splattered walls with pictures hanging . We got a lot of artists from our club to come so the artwork looks really nice (nice meaning it looks bad and scary). We requested for black lights to be installed so everything will look all eerie like. Wires also got set up so we hung a bunch of wigs and dolls. We have this really creepy face and we put a blonde wig on it. very nice. The first day they run is actually today. It started at 6:30 and i really wanted to go. I couldn’t go because i got sick yesterday. Today i feel better but still very sick. I felt miserable today so i went home haha..

Well you guys should go and visit it. Everyone did a nice job so it looks awesome. It runs from this weekend and next Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Too bad it’s not on Halloween though since it is a Monday night. I think the earliest they start is 2:30 in the afternoon, which is kinda weird. Too bright out for haunting i think.

[CE]Phones and stuff

Oh these tech wars. Google's Android-enabled phones account for 43 per cent of the global smart phone market, Apple, with 18 per cent of the global market reported 6 billion dollars in revenue from their iOS devices. I’m not really a phone person but i know some stuff, not a lot but ehh.

(I am comparing this to my Android)
So what i like about iPhones the best is the touch screen. It is so smooth and easy to control. It’s pretty accurate when i want to click on a specific link or something. I really like that about it. Another thing is the fast shutter on the camera. I wish that my phone was like this. Also i like that you can pictures from the front or you can reverse it. I don’t have an iPhone but my dad has one. He likes it a lot and is a fan of Apple. I haven’t used one but hey, an iTouch can’t be that much different. The only major difference is the ability to make calls. I was asked if i wanted an iPhone but i have an iTouch so i think it would be super pointless to get one. iPhones are so expensive too...

For the Androids vs. Apple thing, i can’t really say which is better since i don’t know much about other smart phones. I can only judge from my phone right now.I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia and there are some things i like about it and some not so much. My phone is really slow and the touch screen sucks. It is supper inaccurate so when i type, it makes it seem like i don’t know how to spell or something. You can customize the background and stuff to make it cool but it is a total battery killer and lagger. Another thing about my phone is that it has an 8.1 megapixel camera but it sure does not look like it. It takes alright pics but doesn’t seem 8.1 to me.. The good thing about Smartphones in general is that they are cheaper than the iPhone which is awesome and can do basically the same things.

I don’t really care much about phones though. I’d be okay with a flip phone but whatever. In conclusion, iPhones are alright but Androids have basically the same functions. It’s just people’s preference to the brand name Apple is what i see it as why they choose to get iPhones. I mean, Androids are cheaper. But don’t get my phone, it sucks. Get some other one. If you really want an iPhone, go to China for the cheap but fake version.

By the way i'm a bit phone term stupid. I don't know if Androids and Smartphones are different things or whatever. Or whatever iOS is. I only know so much about phones. well.. whatever

[RE]Mistakes

But I have been raised better than that and do not want my brothers to go down the same way. They say you should learn from your mistakes but for my younger brothers and sisters, they have to learn from their mistake and mine so they wont make the same ones I made. So basically I am trying to be that better person too..

I got this from Zubair’s post and thought that this fit my situation too. I’ve made many mistakes in my life, small ones and big ones. I didn’t really care much about school and my grades for the first part of my high school life. It is one of the worst mistakes i made and i really regret it now. Because of my screw up, i have to work extra hard now to make up for what i had done. My grades have been showing improvement but i am still very nervous about college. I can’t go back in time so now is what matters.

It wasn’t my parents’ fault that i followed the wrong path. It was a stupid mistake i made myself. Back then, i didn’t talk to my parents as much as i should have or asked for advice or things like that. They may think that they did a bad job parenting but i don’t think so at all. They are great parents. Although they were a bit strict and i hated it back then, i really appreciate it now. I didn’t fall into the wrong group of people and i have morals that they instilled in me. They did a great job raising me.

From what i am going through now, i do not want my brother to go down the same way.  He is a freshmen and my parents are harder on him than they were with me because they also don’t want him to go through all the trouble. I make sure he does his homework and help him on stuff he doesn’t understand. I want to be a good sister and prevent what happened to me, happening to him.

[CE]Earthquake

A strong earthquake has struck near a major town in the Pacific nation of Papua New Guinea, the United States Geological Survey said.

The 6.7-magnitude quake occurred on Friday about 100 kilometers east of Lae, on the country's northern coast at a depth of 63 kilometres, according to the USGS.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries and no tsunami alert had been issued.
Papua New Guinea lies on the "Ring of Fire", an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim where about 90 per cent of the world's quakes occur.

Another earthquake people! Earthquakes are surfacing more and more. This one was 6.7 magnitude, which is fairly strong, and no one reported getting hurt. No tsunami is even better because we’ve all seen what horrible damages that can do.

I am gradually becoming more and more scared of natural disasters. I’ve felt some minor shakes the past months and it is really frightening. I remember watching what happened to Japan when they took some strong hits from the earthquake and tsunami, causing huge amounts of damage. Fortunately nothing like that happened at Papua New Guinea. You cannot control these disasters; it just happens. You can take precautions to prevent yourself from getting hurt and things like that. I feel like i would be helpless if we got hit by a huge quake. I would probably feel panicked and try to leave my house but it is a bit difficult since my grandmother lives with me. I also have a little brother that i’ll have to worry about. Hopefully, i won’t have to experience such a tragic event.

[RE]Scuba Diving!!

Something, I always wanted to try out is Scuba Diving. Friends who went diving told me that's so amazing!
The fact, that everything is quiet around you and you can watch the different kinds of fishes is a great feeling. When I see all these pictures, which were taken by people who went scuba diving, I'm aways thinking that I would love to try it but actually I'm too afraid to dive under the water surface.

I saw this on Clair’s post and i have to say that i really want to try scuba diving. Although i cannot swim (hahaha......) i still wish to go. I would have to learn how to swim first that’s gonna happen later. I say that i don’t know how but i did go shark diving in Hawaii but it didnt really involve swimming. We were just in a cage around the surface of the water. At first i was scared since i didn’t know how to swim but everything turned out alright

Everything seems so amazing under water. My dad went once and he made a video tape of the whole experience. All the fishes swimming around him seems really cool. It is all quiet and peaceful down there. After i learn how to swim, scuba diving will be a must. Though i think i’ll need to learn to dive first. It seems really scary and i really don’t like to jump off of things. I’ll need to take things one at a time.

[FR]My afternoon & night

Today i went out to eat dinner with my family. I was picked up at South Shore because i was setting up for the haunted house event. Even though there was a lot of stuff to do i had to leave early. I only got to paint one scary face on our poster and i wish i could’ve done more ): . Oh well, i’m going there during the weekend and i’ll practically be there the whole day. So after i got picked up i went straight to the restaurant and i saw my cousin there. I didn’t know that he was coming so i was surprised. I don’t know why we went out to eat but it’s good to do so from time to time. At dinner, i sat with my mom, cousin, and brother. We had a bunch of awesome food like noodles, steak, crab, shrimp, and many more.

And i am still here at the restaurant now, doing m posts. I’m using my dad’s laptop because it is going to be awhile until i go home. I just finished the monthly essay and i have this and two other posts to do. The monthly essay took some time to write since i was kinda behind. At the computer lab, my computer froze and it took 20 minutes to unfreeze. I didn’t want to switch computers because i was afraid my work won’t save. Well at least i did it all now. Well now i’m going to do my other posts now since i have at least 250 words.

[ME]Going for the look

Explain Cohen’s arguments and discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with his analysis. Support your position, providing reasons and examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

Capturing the attention of people have changed for retailers. It seems like it is necessary to have a walking billboard, as Marshal Cohen puts it, advertising for a company. Keeping and garnering people’s attention is a lot more difficult because of competition from other brands. So this results into people getting discriminated against because companies are constantly trying to catch people’s attention by hiring only a certain group of people. Many people find it unmoral while retailers say it is a great marketing strategy. Although it is good for gaining profit, there are many negatives that overlap the positives.
Cohen argues that having a brand enhancer is really important for business. Creating an environment that attracts people , particularly the youth, is needed. Most consumers of the retail market are mainly of the younger generation so they need to appeal to them more. The store Abercrombie & Fitch has bags and posters covered with mostly either skinny attractive girls or strong guys, or even both; all of which are fairly young. With this advertising system, they attract many males and females. As Cohen says,” A guy wants to go hang out in a store where he can see good-looking gals.”
I think that having people who suit the stores’ image is good, in the business sense. When people see a person out in the street looking good wearing the stores’ products, they’ll want to check out the shop. “Brand Representatives are ambassadors to the brand,” Abercrombie’s community director Tom Lennox said. “We want to hire brand representatives that will represent the Abercrombie & Fitch brand.....,look great while exhibiting individuality, project the brand themselves with energy and enthusiasm, and make the store a warm, inviting place...”. I do not get what they mean by wanting the store to be a warm inviting place because what they’re doing is discriminating. Companies need to keep their people attracted to their brand so they need to have people who makes their clothes look appealing. This is a way of bringing in the money from the young fashionable market because that is where most of their profit lies. This kind of marketing strategy proves to be useful since stores like Abercrombie, Hollister, and Forever 21 are immensely popular.
But by hiring youthful and attractive all of the time causes many problems. And so because of this, i have to say that this marketing strategy is wrong especially on a moral level. Companies should and have the right to hire whoever they want to but at the same time, they shouldn’t hire only the same type of people. Because companies need to fit their store image of beauty, those who don’t fit the image are tossed aside or ignored. Abercrombie’s main look is the “classic American” style and so they generally hire people who emit that style. The company says it doesn't discriminate but many think otherwise. Abercrombie does hire people of different ethnicities but those who don’t fit their image are mainly in the back, not on the sales floor. Abercrombie even hires people on the spot if they look pretty enough for them. Workers are told to approach someone if they look like they could work at the store. It is discrimination because someone with a lot of work experience, but not that attractive, can be denied a job there. “Good looking people are treated better by others. Maybe companies have noticed that hiring them impacts their bottom line..”
“The problem with all this image stuff is it just reeks of marketing for this white-bread, Northern European, thin, wealthy, fashion-model look.” said Donna Harper. People just need to get used to the reality that we aren’t and can’t all be like this. With companies always displaying posters and having workers that mostly look “beautiful” everywhere, people can only feel bad for how they look. A lot of people truly believe that looking like a model and being thin is the definition of beauty, which it is obviously not. Being beautiful doesn’t have a specific look. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Discrimination of many different kinds are presented when hiring by appearances. “If you’re hiring by looks, then you can run into problems of race discrimination, national origin discrimination, gender discrimination, age discrimination, and even disability discrimination.” said Olophius Perry. Many clothing shops hire only young people. “Hiring only athletic-looking people could be viewed as discriminating against a person in a wheelchair.” As stated from the article, Going for the Look, but Risking Discrimination, a person in a wheelchair won’t get the job. “Hiring someone’s attractive isn’t illegal per se. But people’s views on what’s attractive may be influenced by their race, their religion, their age.” There was a case where a 47 year old waitress accused a restaurant she worked at for discrimination. The waitress had worked at the restaurant for 23 years, but after the place got renovated, she was denied a job there. The reason they told her for not rehiring her was that she no longer fit the young, trendy look the restaurant had adopted. I think that having a 47 year old in a trendy place is fine. She has a lot of work experience and she would definitely be a great employee at the new restaurant.
People should hire people based on their abilities. Stephen J. Roppolo, a lawyer who represents many hotels and restaurants, said”...I tell employers that their main focus needs to be hiring somebody who can get the job done. When they want to hire to project a certain image, that’s where things can get screwy.” I agree with this because when it come down to things, getting the job done is top priority. By having an incompetent person working for you, business is hindered and nothing will get done. No matter how a person looks, it should be all about their abilities.
